I Just Blew it Big time!

Have you ever felt so bad about what you just did that you wished you could crawl into a hole and hide? Have you ever wanted to cancel the last hour of your life? Or perhaps even considered that the best thing for you may be to cancel the rest of your life? If you haven’t just wait for it, it’s bound to catch up with you sooner or later,

A young preacher came to his new appointment and decided he was ready to turn the world upside down. After all he had just completed a year in the last town with healing miracles and signs and wonders galore. Cancers cured, mental breakdowns restored and even a heart valve miraculously replaced. What couldn’t he do?

He placed an ad in the local rag - Join Us on Sunday Night and See and Experience miraculous healings. Come and hear how God still heals the sick today! (After all he knew all the answers.)

Sunday came – the auditorium was full of people anxious to hear and experience this promised revival. The young man stood to proclaim his great sermon and tripped over his tongue at every turn. His great sermon that was to bring faith to the hearers was a complete disaster. The more he tried to correct his stammering delivery the worse and worse it got. As he came to the conclusion, he wished he could just disappear and never have to face the people again. He was absolutely certain he would have to look for a new job.

In his heart he cried, ”Dear God please forgive me! I have not given you any glory tonight.” But there was nowhere to go. He was trapped by his own words.

“I promised to pray for the sick!” He announced, “I don’t believe my message has been of any help but that can’t be changed. If you would like me to pray for you please come to the front.”

No long appeal here; after all how could any body be healed now that he had messed it up so? They came forward as they would in a successful crusade and this just added to the young mans fear of failure. He began to pray and lay hands on the sick with little expectation.

About the third to be prayed for said, “Brother!” in this church they called one another brother, “Can I give a testimony?” (Inside the preacher groaned, “Oh! No! Why must he prolong this agony?”) But he answered, “Yes.” And stood back.

Mossie, that was his nickname, said, “During World War 2 I got frostbite in my feet and I have not been able to sit through any church service without removing my shoes. Tonight that has all changed, while our brother was preaching my feet were completely healed.” (The preacher uttered a “thank you God!” under his breath and moved on.)

Further down the line a man had removed his hearing aids and asked for prayer. The young man placed his fingers in the ears and prayed. He thought he felt movement in the ears but said nothing. When he had completed praying for the people he moved embarrassedly to the door to farewell the people.

At the door the deaf man said, “ Will you come to my hometown and baptise me and my family?” He was no longer wearing his hearing aids, completely healed and was from a town hundreds of miles away.

The young preacher told me, “ If I had, had my way that night no one would have been prayed for, Yet everyone that was, was healed.” Often I am very glad that I am not in control. Every time I muck up I want to go away and hide but God overrules.”

Remember even Peter denied the Lord. And wanted to go back to his fishing despite our Lord’s resurrection. Thank God he didn’t.

Wonderful lesson! It is truly the Lord's hand that heals. I like the way you showed the young man's suffering as he stumbled through the sermon. Very well done.

Very good story. I liked how the preacher picked up and went on, asking God to intervene. That is right on topic! Good job! Keep on writing!

I really liked this story. I thought that the preacher would be in big trouble. The description of his sermon was great. I think your last paragraph didn’t quite fit, as though it needed to be in italics or quote marks to set it off from the rest. Your MC certainly spilt his milk. How great it is that God can come and pick it up again!

Good voice and pacing in this piece. The last paragraph seemed tacked on, in my opinion. Keep writing!
