Someone once asked me if it was possible for one to forget his birthday. My reply was affirmative because it has happened to me. Yes, I forgot my birthday and for me, it was not a big deal. I must have gotten the attitude from my father. His forgetfulness is actually at the extreme. At least for the past three consecutive years, I remembered my birthday. I cannot remember the last time he remembered his. I presume we are in the minority because I have come to realize that for majority, it is a big deal.
Remembering other people’s birthdays is far-fetched. I for one, console myself when I don’t, considering the fact that I forget mine too! I may console myself alright, but it does not deliver me from the “wrath” of some loved ones. I guess I have been lucky that they have been accepting my apologies until recently.
Imagine forgetting the birthday of someone so close, fiancé (e), husband or wife and maybe with melancholy temperament. That was what I did! I completely forgot the guy’s birthday and it threatened to be an unforgivable sin. My apologies were not accepted and the situation was worsened by the fact that those not dear to him remembered.
Somehow we put the incidence behind us-or so I thought. A few months later, it was my birthday, I did not hear from him.
I wondered, was it payback time or did he forget?!!
