Now that I’ve been a Believer for 26 years, I can look back and see that God really does have a sense of humor. The saying “God takes care of kids and idiots” comes to mind. The good thing is, He uses us where we are, just like we are, as long as we are willing. It’s just that in our eagerness as “babes” we sometimes try to move ahead of Him, even do His job at times.
At this stage in my life, I tend to take it slower. I’ve learned that it really is much easier to wait on His timing – less stress that way!
This race that we are in as Christians is so much different than the horse races mentioned above. In those races, only the top three get the prize, with first prize getting the most. In our race, we all win if we finish.
We each are in different stages and have different courses. If I try to jump ahead onto the course that my neighbor is running, I will wear out and find myself unable to finish. However, if I let Him, God will lead me back to the course He has for me and I can carry on, sometimes walking – waiting on His next direction – and sometimes running “full speed ahead” as He cheers me on.
The important thing is to “follow.” He is our leader and He guides us. Yet, sometimes we are stubborn and He has to treat us just like the horse, by using “bit and bridle” (Psalm 32:9).
Let us choose to follow our Leader. As the old minister used to say, “He will do to trust!”

Except for the sayings, you don't need to use so many quotation marks. They usually indicate that you're using a phrase ironically, and they lessen the impact of what you're saying.
