He looked forward to the weekly meetings that took place at the local church grounds. It was the place he found joy in meeting and exchanging the weeks’ experiences with other brethren from his group. He especially enjoyed the warmth that permeated from each of the members to one another. At last he had found a place he could feel accepted, even wanted.
Jeff had grown up not knowing any love after his parents were killed in a bomb explosion in his native village in Africa. For a long time now all he had known was terror and more terror inflicted by the warring parties in his country. He had grown up waking up to loud explosions and the inevitable pain caused by war in his country. He often wondered how life would be like to wake up to peace in his country and be able to go about his business undisturbed. But that remained a dream.
The military vehicles cruising down the deserted street did not deter Jeff from walking down to the local church for the meeting that day. He walked quickly, as one who was eager to get to his destination. As he went by he reflected on the love he had found among brethren at his church through the home group. It was here he had begun to find healing after listening to harrowing stories of the effects of war on others besides himself. Among the sharing of pain he had found within himself a place to love others who suffered similar of even worse fate with him. He had felt his first compulsion to love in this place.
As he approached the Church gates he could hear excited chatter going on. He went over what he had prepared to share with the rest that day in his mind. Today would be the day he let out all the anger he had held inside so long, to people he knew loved him. Perhaps today would be the day he found healing within himself and the courage to carry on. That, along with the joy he felt inside at having accepted salvation at the home group meeting that last week. For truly, he had found the love that came from the Lord flowing through his people at the home group.
