“Oh, thank you Father for such a beautiful day, this day!! I am so thankful that you have blessed me with another day to carry out your service, “exclaims Betty as she jumps out bed.

Betty walked from her bedroom to the kitchen to start a pot of coffee. As the aroma of fresh brewed coffee fills the air, Betty takes out her box of cards.

“Let’s see whose birthdays are this month.”

“Oh my, Kim is turning 16 already! Lord, thank you for blessing our church with such a fine young lady. I pray your blessings upon this child as she goes out into the world.”

“Now that all the birthdays are done, hmm, let me think, Mrs. Collin mentioned that the new mother, Samantha, who recently joined the church, is struggling with some financial difficulties. I think I’ll send her a little note of encouragement.

Betty rummages through her box of cards, “Lord, guide me to the card you have set aside for Samantha. She picks up a card with scripture, “This one is the one!”

“One of my favorite verses”, thought Betty, “I hope it will touch her heart. Lord, as I send this to Samantha, may your name be honored and glorified. May you bless her and her children and help them out with any difficulties they might have, whether spiritually, physically, emotionally, or financially. Lord may you lift them up, given them courage, strength and renew Samantha’s spirit in the name of Christ Jesus I ask, Amen.”

A few days later

Baby screaming

“Morning already?? I don’t feel like I’ve had any sleep. How am I ever going to get through this day? Samantha walks over picks up the baby. “Oh no, you’re running a fever. How am I going to find the money to take you to the doctor? I just used my last few dollars to put gas in the car.”

She hears her other three children fighting in the kitchen. Oh boy, here we go with another day. She goes to see what the problem is. The kids are trying to get breakfast, the phone is ringing. Samantha is trying to stop the kids from fighting. She picks up the phone, bill collector, the baby continues crying….Samantha justs wants to go back to bed and pull the covers over her head.

She looks at the clock “Hurry guys, we’re going to be late! “ Out the door they rush. She drops the kids off at school and heads over to the doctor. “I don’t have an appointment but my baby’s sick. I don’t have the money right now to pay you, is there any way you can bill me? “What a humiliating feeling. “ I keep thinking things are going to get better,” she thinks to herself , “ but I’m beginning to wonder.”

After seeing the doctor, she heads home. “ I’m going to have to miss another day of work because they won’t allow me to drop off little Katie at the day care when she’s sick.”

“Does anyone care about me? I feel so alone and uncared for,” she thinks to herself as she starts to sob.

As she walks through the door, she reaches in her mailbox, Let’s see, what bills do I have to face today?

“What’s this? A card! And why would anyone be sending me something? It’s not my birthday. ”

She opens the card. ‘Dear Samantha, I’m so glad that God has led you to join our church. We really enjoy seeing you and your wonderful children each week. Your family brightens up our sanctuary. You have been on my mind and I wanted to let you know that I am praying for you and your family. God is going to do great things for you.”

As she reads the card, she can’t help herself. She begins to sob uncontrollably,” God, you really do love me. I am not alone. You are with me. What can I do to follow you?”

As she continues to read the card, she sees the scripture, ‘‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.’ Proverbs 3: 5-6 (KJV).

“I will Lord..I will trust you.” Thank you for your special Angel named Betty. I only she knew how much her card has helped me.. I will make sure to give her special hug from you Lord, this Sunday!!”

I liked how you told the story from both perspectives--the encourager and then the one needing ecouragement. Good job and keep writing.

Nice read. Glad that the 'problems' didn't go away. Instead the encouragement helped her get through them.
