And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens opening and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son with you I am well pleased." Mark 1:10-11. Those were the words that describe Jesus baptism. John The Baptist in the Jordan River baptized him.

I grew up in the Lutheran church and was baptized as a baby. Actually I was baptized twice as a baby. Three weeks after I was born the doctors discovered that my intestines were blocked. My parents were concerned that I might not live and I was baptized in the hospital. Praise the Lord I survived surgery and I was baptized the second time in church.

Baptism is a very controversial subject. There are churches that believe that you should be baptized as a baby. There are churches that believe that immersion is the only way. I gave my life to the Lord in high school. I was attending a non-denominational church at the time. The church believed in immersion type baptism. The Bible is not clear as to when we are to get baptizes it just says get baptized. I decided that I would do it if and when he shows me that my baptism was wrong.

A few years ago after struggling with this issue since for years I was baptized by immersion at a pro-life event at a pool in Jackson, Mississippi. What brought me to that hotel pool to get baptized by immersion? How did I get there? First the Lord showed me a few years ago that we as Christians have a relationship with Jesus We don't have a relationship with a particular church. Every church has something wrong with there doctrine. Why is that? God's word is perfect, But because we people are sinful we mis-interrupt Gods word

Second, because of sin man mis-interrupts Gods word. I decided that I wanted to be obedient. I want to error on the side of being obedient verses disobeying the Lord. It is better to trust the Lord than to trust people Psalm 118:8. I do believe that baptism does not save you. There are things that I will not understand this side of heaven and baptism will be one of them.

Hope you will continue growing in Him, so you will not have to feel that you will never understand the symbolism of baptism "this side of heaven". :) Agree that baptism does not save, and agree that we need to follow His example in Believer's Baptism. Some problems with phrases and sentence structure in 4th paragraph, but clearly a writing shared from the heart.
