The Assembly of the brethren.

“.. not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together..”(Heb. 10:25 NKJV). This verse flashed in Dave’s mind several times and he decided to dress up for the Sunday service. He had been absent for close to seven weeks and it was beginning to tell on his spiritual growth and life generally. Prior to his absence from fellowship, he has faced lots of excruciating challenges that were leading to discouragement and disillusionment. Dave was a young graduate who had been in unemployment for close to two years after his National Service. He was converted and became a fervent believer shortly before leaving college and has looked forward to a successful career after graduating. Initially, his Spirit was very high and his faith kept him on trusting that a rewarding job will come his way in good time but to no avail. Unfortunately after about eighteen months, he started having a sense of hopelessness. He started missing fellowship and thought of going back to his old ways before meeting the Lord. His foot was slipping without him realizing it, yet the old ways were no longer appealing to him and the conflict left him in a worse state until he was jolted by Apostle Peter’s words “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life (John 6:68 NKJV).

It was then he recalled the beauty of fellowship. The environment of love, sharing, burden bearing and counseling; the worship session, the dance and the music that was characteristic of their church. He also recalled the mid-week fellowship and the house church in his neighborhood with nostalgia. Suddenly he said “Fellowship is it!”
Many of his parishioners and friends some of whom have called to ask after his welfare and prayed with him were quite happy to see him in church. The happiest of course were the house church members who have been praying fervently and counseling brother Dave to join them in fellowship again.

The Choir was spectacular this Sunday and the special rendition as if it was specially prepared for him. So was the message that was delivered by the preacher, so encouraging. He felt so exasperated that he whispered to himself. “This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it”, and he gave thanks to God that he did not postpone his reunion for another week. Indeed we should not neglect fellowship with fellow believers.

I suspect that there are a lot of people who could tell a similar story to Dave's.

Work a bit more on "showing, not telling..." Help us to see what Dave is seeing, hear what he's hearing, etc.

Lots of good word choices in this entry.

A very heartwarming testimony of the Spirit of God that will not let us go. I enjoyed reading this.
