They prayed ever so fervently in their small prayer room.
Just one prayer for their dear friend who was so close to doom.

They prayed for a miracle, not doubting in their heart.
All they wanted was his safety, though they were miles apart.

They prayed to the Lord to spare them this time.
Pleading with Him not to take him in his prime.

They prayed so loud and hard, they did not hear the knocking at the door.
And even when Rhoda told them who was knocking, they closed their eyes and prayed some more.

They started to pray, but had to stop in mid-sentence,
Because the knocking at the door grew more intense.

When one of the believers finally opened the door,
There stood Peter whom they all were praying for.

He told everyone in the small prayer room about his miraculous escape.
But they were speechless and all they could do was to stand there and gape.

Acts 12:6-19 [Peter was miraculously set free from prison as the believers gathered to pray at the Home of Mary, the mother of John Mark. When Peter got there, the believers were too surprised to believe. Sometimes we are surprised when God grants our requests immediately. You can read the full story in the above Bible verses]

You sure picked a great Scripture for this topic!

Rhymed poetry usually has lines of more even length--try counting stressed and unstressed syllables, and aim for a regular pattern. This poem is certainly worth some minor additional tweaking.
