Topic: Surprised (09/06/07)

TITLE: God heard
By Cathy Orrick Luders

Surprised I am when I learn some new truth in God's word. I shouldn't be surprised, after all God says quite clearly how much He cares for us. But, knowing He cares and seeing, witnessing it for myself, that just baffles my mind. One particular instance happened just over a year ago, July 1, 2006, when our only car, a 1989 Chrysler New Yorker, died. It was beyond repair - over $1000; it was destined for the junk yard. Unfortunately, to boot, it contained a full tank of gas, which we were unable to siphon. The junk yard dealer gave us $50 for the car, refusing to give any more, even for the gas. Friends loaned us their van, which for the first week of the month we had use of it, had a gas leak. God watched over us when we drove it 5 hours away to a necessary appointment and back again. After we had the van for two weeks, we started looking at new/used cars. My husband and I knew what we wanted, but we weren't sure it was what God wanted. Our desire was for a PT Cruiser. We prayed. We decided, this time the car we purchased would be the one God wanted us to have and that God would show us the way to pay for it. That was a biggie. We didn't have any money saved toward a new or newer model. We didn't know where we were going to get any money. We talked about a bank loan, using our credit cards, none of that seemed really what God wanted us to do. We waited. At one point I had said I'd like a car with less than 40,000 miles on it. My husband laughed. Nearly everyone laughed. Surprise, surprise, God heard. One week before we found a car God showed us how we were to pay for it. We borrowed against a life insurance policy. One month to the day our previous car bit the dust, we found our car. It's as old as we are married - 16 years now. We have had it a year. It had considerable rust, painted over mind you, but its there. It needed new rear tires, it needed lots of things renewed. The tape player didn't work, but the radio did. It ran. And it had just under 36,000 miles. And we had just enough money to buy it. Because God provided. God heard. God listens. God's always there. Why do I get all freaked out. Why do I think we can't do it. Of course we can't do it. But God can. So we shouldn't ever be surprised. Just walk with Him.

What a nice testimony!

For greater visual appeal, consider breaking your essay into shorter paragraphs, separated by a blank space. There were a few punctuation faults, easy to fix.

My favorite of God's names is Jehovah-Jirah: God provides!

It's so fun to read a story that I can connect with. We had a similar situation with our home...not exactly what we had pictured, but close enough, and exactly what God had planned for us! Thanks for sharing.
