Her long hair cascaded down trying to hide the expression on her face. Though she did not speak, her shoulders spoke volumes as they slumped forward in defeat. Her hands lay motionless upon her lap. You could almost visualize the rope she was holding – as she was at the very end of it. The question loomed around her, “How did I end up here?” Her potential that seemed non-ending at one time had faded into the consequences of choices made. Her heart had fallen prey to the attacks of anger.

The anger was born out of injustice. It first attacked when her parents decided she did not need the protection and unity of marriage. Through the decision of divorce, they left her vulnerable. Love was replaced with hate, unity of a family was disrupted into chaos, and she was left torn between a mother and a father. Her heart, now wounded from the people she trusted the most, was beating to a different rhythm. The darkness crowded in and the tempter whispered to her to let the anger soothe her pain.

Anger quickly became her drug of choice. She felt entitled to it. The wrongs against her fueled each injection. The fake friends at her school, the hypocritical Christians at her church, and the boyfriend who crushed her heart were all accomplices to her addiction. The ways of the world overshadowed her and claimed her as their own.

Anger continues to flaunt its victories over forgiveness and love, strutting confidently in the injustices of life. How many more souls will it claim before we view it as a true enemy?

I love the message here! You conveyed it with great word choice and kept it succinct. I could really see this poor girl and the things she had suffered, that fed her addiction. Great job, great writing. Good luck!

Great writing skills. I like your metaphors and sympathise with your character whose anger controlled her young life.
