Asked what was good, how to follow that way
That led to happiness, glory, content,
And how the rest of his life should be spent.
The other Rich Man, indeed very wise,
Knew the sad state of the heart of such guys.
He lovingly said to sell all he had
But then he realized the young man was sad.
The young man seeking a life of his own
Wanted so badly the comforts of home –
Of money and things, control of his life,
Of power, prestige, his choice of a wife.
He didn’t seek true help from the Rich Man,
He wanted his life to follow his plan.
He wasn’t willing to follow, obey
His loving Maker, for he loved his own way.
He left the Rich Man his heart very sad
Beginning to boil and turn rather mad.
Unwilling to leave and follow His call
The rich young man was primed for a fall.
A fall that would take him far from his Lord
Following feelings instead of the Word.
Selfish desires directing his path
Destroying his joy and leading to wrath.
The Rich Man’s pierced heart bled for His son,
Wanting so badly to show that He’d won –
A victory for this son of His choice
Free for the taking if he’d follow His voice.
We must be willing to rise up and leave
Follow His calling and learn how to cleave
To trust in a King, the Richest of All
His sadness will flee just answer His call.
Mark 10:22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
