As I lay me down to sleep, I prayed the Lord my soul to keep.
Gentle words within my head, as I lay upon my bed.
Tomorrow I will rise and shine, with all before me truly mine
And God be with me where I’m led, because that is what my Mamma said
Today she taught me how to pray and kissed a boo-boo fast away.
She showed me how the flowers grow and other things I did not know.
“God loves us all, the great and small”, her words came strong and stead.
“So love him too, as he loves you”, is what my Mamma said.
Her life was hard from days gone by, I never understood just why
Sometimes I would since her fears, and catch her eyes filled up with tears
Quickly she would dry her eyes, no chance to ask or sympathize.
“Enough of that,” “No need to dread,” is what my Mamma often said.
“God doesn’t want us to be sad, in times of trouble, good or bad”
Her voice so sure and thoughts secure, while calming me instead.
Speaking so convincingly, helping to enlighten me
These are things my Mamma said.
One day she left us going home, to be with God, with him alone.
To wait for us till we come too, when all God’s words will then come true.
“For within his love our souls are led”… That is what my mamma said.
