Like John within his prison I watch behind veiled walls,
I hear the dancing party and wonder after all,
Is God still here beside me or am I all alone,
Herodias girl is dancing and God seems far away.

He was just a voice in the desert, make straight the path of God,
Until the hateful Herod tried to stop this man of God;
He took him from the desert and threw him in a cell,
Herodias girl is dancing and God seems far away.

The parties almost over the wine has ceased to flow,
He hears the roaring laughter from deep within his cell,
The music stopped it’s playing and silence fills the hall;
Herodias girl stopped dancing and her wish is heard by all.

“Bring me the head of John the Baptist on a platter for all to see;”
He heard the jailer coming the dangling of his keys,
An unknown path before him as they bent him to his knees;
Herodias girl stopped dancing and now his end has come.

I wonder what his thoughts were on that dreadful day;
Such a Godly faithful servant did he think life would end this way?
He never even wavered as the sword came crashing down;
Herodias girl stopped dancing and John now wears a crown.

I pray that God will grant me a life like that of John,
To walk in faithful service throughout this life of mine,
The music’s almost over, I hear the jailers feet,
Herodias girl is dancing and soon my end will come.

Good poem! The repetition is a wonderful way to reinforce your theme.

Very well-told story and message in this poem! There were a few punctuation errors that proofreading should catch, but I enjoyed reading it. My favorite stanza was "I wonder what his thoughts were on that dreadful day;
Such a Godly faithful servant did he think life would end this way?
He never even wavered as the sword came crashing down;
Herodias girl stopped dancing and John now wears a crown."
