Beggar, just a beggar, just believe
Roman soldiers ransacked our home when I was just born--
They took my older brother right up off of the floor...
My father tried to stop them and then they took him, too--
My mother screamed in anger and fear and I cried too
That night the Roman soldiers were going to take me away:
They thought I was a first-born son they had orders to slay...
As my father fought with them over my little body,
They dropped me and I started to bleed
He's just a beggar, begging to receive
He's just a beggar, begging to believe
Look past his outward expression
Look on him with compassion
Beggar, just a beggar
Just believe
For many years, mother took care of me the best she could--
I never really appreciated her sacrifice or understood...
As I got older I couldn't walk or run or leap or dance,
When she took me to the temple I begged God for another chance
He's just a beggar, begging to receive
He's just a beggar, begging to believe
Look past his outward expression
Look on him with compassion
Beggar, just a beggar
Just believe
I was down and depressed the week my mother passed away--
And my friends carried me to the temple again to beg,
When two men walked up to me and one of them said,
"Look at us!" Expecting something, I raised my head--
"I don’t have any money for you. But I’ll give you what I have:
In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!”
He took me by the right hand and lifted me up--
My feet and ankles were instantly healed--I could walk!
Walking, leaping, and praising God I went into the temple
"I'm healed! I'm healed! I've been made whole!"
He's just a beggar, begging to receive
He's just a beggar, begging to believe
Look past his outward expression
Look on him with compassion
Beggar, just a beggar
Just believe
Beggar, just a beggar
Just believe
Just believe...
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, there's just something about that Name...
