I have often wondered about the name applied to the willows
Bordering our back property line, Golden Willows. Often I have
considered it must be due to the yellow color of the bark or
the yellow of the leaves in the fall.
One morning the sky was so gray it was nearly purple and
somewhere the sun found a small opening and was pouring
it’s warm, early morning light through. Everything it touched
seemed bathed in gold, even the air itself appeared gold. This
morning I no longer wondered as to why the willows may be
named, Golden Willows. As the sun shown across them they
were aglow as if lighted by some inner fire and as if someone
had overlaid them with pure gold. Against the purple of the
sky they were breath taking.
It occurred to me that these willows are what Christians are
to be like when Christ said: “ You are the light of the world.”
As long as we remain in God’s word we are His light. Our light
is love and whether our light would draw them in or repel them
is dependent on our walk within the light given us. God does
not give us more than we need, he gives us only what will glow
and radiate with the warmth and love of Christ Jesus.
Much as these trees appeared that morning, I pray that I may appear
to all men. The light was brilliant, yet not harsh and cold: it was
radiant, yet soft and warm, so warm that having seen it you
could not turn away until it was gone.
Lord Jesus:
Help me to continually glow that others will remain close and
will find You. I pray that I may never draw people to a false light,
but that they may ever desire to seek and discover the True Source
of my light.
