Thank You for becoming our Father--once Your Only Begotten Son paid the price--and for watching over us even more closely than a mother hen watches over her chicks.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for so graciously becoming our sin bearer and payment of full atonement for our sins—being our Savior.
Thank You, Holy Spirit, for coming in full humility to take up forever residence in each of us when we are saved and being willing and available to reveal as much of our Triune Godhead to use as we are able to assimilate.
Thank You, God, for restoring us to Your Image as was imparted to your creation of Adam and Eve and then marred by the sin nature that became theirs after their yielding to the temptation of Satan and which has been passed on to us through the ages.
O Gracious God, as though Your Amazing Grace were not all sufficiency, You—as only You could--constantly add more to that all sufficiency. Such Love is truly beyond my understanding. You even tell us to ask, knock and seek so that we may be given more.
How mighty and awesome is Your Word and all it encompasses. Almost 30 years ago, as this twice-married and divorced woman was being graduated from the Seminary, You had providentially not given me any children, but You “gave me a Scripture” from which I took heart.
“Sing, O barren,
You who have not borne!
Break forth into singing, and cry aloud,
You who have not labored with child!
For more are the children of the desolate
Than the children of the married woman,” says the Lord.
Enlarge the place of your tent,
And let them stretch the curtains of your dwellings;
Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes.
For you shall expand to the right and to the left,
And your descendants shall inherit the nations,
And make the desolate cities inhabited.” (Isaiah 54:1-3, NKJV)
And, O Lord, that You have done through these one score and ten years. You gave me a ready-made family when You gave me Bob as my husband. To think that now, it has increased to include spouses of the grandchildren and their five children! Then there are the countless, beyond measure, spiritual children you have given me of all ages, colors, and races,
Precious Lord, I cannot thank You enough for Your graciousness in sharing Bob with me for 16-1/2 years of the 71 years he had been Yours while alive on this earth. It is You Who have brought me through the 11+ years of widowhood. You know full well how hard it was for me to adjust to a new kind of singleness, during which. for so long, I felt as though half of me was missing. Then You enlarged Your Scripture passage for me.
Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed;
Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame;
For you will forget the shame of your youth.
And will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore.
For your Maker is your husband; the Lord of hosts is His name;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel;
He is called the God of the whole earth. (Isaiah 54:4-5, NKJV)
You and I know well that You have done everything You’ve promised. Truly this must have been an indication of how well I am being healed of the physical loss of my husband. Indeed, I have been so thankful and it has become so comfortable to have You as my Husband.
Forgive me, Lord, that, when I was praising You, praying to You without ceasing, and thanking You, I got so carried away that I actually addressed You as “Honey.” (I Thessalonians 5:16-19a)
