That Happy Day
The day slowly drew to a close as the sun descended from its perch within the clear blue skies, leaving in its wake swatches of bright orange and yellow. The resounding waves crashing upon the beach, the gentle breeze and breathtaking sunset, enhanced the perfect scene of serenity and peace, as Mark Collins sat on the large beach towel with his girlfriend of three years Angel Thomas.
Mark and Angel had met at his home church, becoming friends instantly. With each passing day, Mark knew there was something very special about Angel and prayed that God guided them both in the right path. After a year of dating Angel, Mark spoke of his love for her and in turn, Angel told Mark how much she loved him. It was like a match made in Heaven.
Slipping Angel’s hand within his, Mark smiled at her. “I wanted today to be perfect; after all it is your twentieth birthday.”
Angel beamed with happiness as her fingers intertwined with his. “God has given us this beautiful view to enjoy together; it is absolutely breathtaking and yes today has been perfect, the best birthday ever.” She said softly, while tilting her head to the side to gaze into his deep brown eyes.
A hearty chuckle escaped Marks lips as he watched the range of expressions flitter across her heart shaped face, illuminating her sparkling, baby blue eyes. Sliding his free hand in the bag that sat beside him, Mark withdrew a long box, turning to Angel he grinned sheepishly. “This isn’t all of your presents, there are more.”
Angel gasped lightly. “Mark I told you not to get me anything, all I wanted was to spend my birthday with you.” she exclaimed as she took the slender looking box within her grasp. Gently Angel lifted the lid, the gift inside, a beautiful diamond cross necklace on a delicate gold chain left her at a loss for words. Tears filled her eyes as she threw her arms about his neck hugging him tightly.
Mark felt his own heart burst with joy just seeing her reaction. Wrapping his arms about her waist he whispered softy. “It was God that brought us together, I wanted to get you something special that will remind us both of who we have to praise and thank.”
“I love it Mark, and I love you!” Angel whispered back lovingly into his ear. “I will never forget the joy that God has brought into my life by bringing us together.”
Smiling once more, Mark brushed his lips against hers in a feather like kiss, before digging in his pocket. “I have one more I want to give you now.”
The little black box fit perfectly within his hand. He opened the lid revealing a one carat marquee diamond engagement ring, taking it out; he slipped it on her finger.
“Angel I love you with all my heart and soul, I have prayed each and every day that God would bring us to this point in our relationship. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you please do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
Tears spilled down Angel’s cheeks as she listened to his declaration of love for her.
“Yes! Mark, I love you so much. If God had not brought us together, I wouldn’t have found my Savior, and the joy and happiness that you have brought into my life.”
Mark embraced his bride to be lovingly as they sat in silence. They were both servants of God and wanted to abide in Him and live their life as a Christian should. By placing God first in the marriage, they were destined to be together till death do them part.
