Psst! Hey! You. Yes you, over here. I have something to tell you. Something I need to get off my chest. I’m just dying to tell someone, and even though I don’t know you, I can trust you to keep a secret, right? Whew! It’s hard keeping secrets. Yeah, I know, I shouldn’t share, but what good is a secret if you don’t tell anyone?

I know things. People trust me to keep their confidences. I usually don’t, but they never know who shared because I’m not the only one they share it with. The people they tell, tell two people, who tell two people and so on. Then you end up with a secret that everybody knows.

So why go around acting like it’s a big deal to have or know a secret or keep one. I’m all about keeping it real. And anyway, this one is huge and I just want to get it off my chest. By the way, what’s your name? I would feel much more comfortable sharing this with an old friend than some stranger I just met on the street, even if that’s the truth.

Okay, so here it is. The big banana. The whole enchilada. Everything I know about the universe and life. If I tell you, what are you going to do with the information? Are you going to tell anyone? I need to know if you are going to share this with anyone else, after all that is the whole key to whether I can trust you or not.

You’re probably thinking I’m off my rocker, have a few loose screws, a driveway that doesn’t reach the street or a light on and nobody’s home, or something like that. It’s not true. Well one night I was at home reading a book and got this craving for ice cream and there wasn’t any. So I went to the store and left the lights on. Sorry, that’s a tangent. I was just saying that there have been times when the light was on and nobody was home. But that isn’t all the time.

The point is - I’m not crazy. I just have something I really want to share that I think will change the world. It’s really important, but if I tell you and you tell someone and they tell someone, then I’m not sure that I’ll get the benefit. It’s like those infomercials where someone is selling get rich quick secrets. Don’t you ever wonder why they don’t just use the system themselves? And if they sell it to everybody else, who is left to actually use the system to get rich? Well, this is kind of like that.

Once I tell you, you’ll use this information to improve your life and other people will use it to improve their lives. Then everyone will have a better life and my life will be just like everybody else’s. On one hand, that wouldn’t be so bad, but part of me wants to have the better life. Is that wrong? Am I wrong to want to have a better life than people around me? Not that I would be better than them, but just that I could have a life others would want to have. If I share this with you, that won’t happen.

Hey wait, don’t go. You can’t leave me here without hearing what I have to say. Yes, I get that you have places to go, people to see and all that. Yeah, and I appreciate that you were willing to stop to chat with a stranger. Okay, I’ll tell.

I’m on a mission. A mission to share the love of God and my faith in Jesus Christ with everyone I meet. No, don’t go. You waited to hear my secret and now that I’ve shared it with you, you want to leave. That’s why I keep it a secret. Why I created all the mystery. People always want to hear a secret. The more they think you don’t want to tell or that you won’t, the more they want to hear it. As long as I didn’t tell you, you were willing to stay here with me, waiting with bated breath. If you leave, you’ll miss the best part.

Jesus loves you and so do I. See, my secret is all I promised and more. Maybe not today, but when you accept this secret, your life will change. Then, the world will know my secret.

The fifth paragraph was my favorite, when you went off on a tangent. Really made me grin. I like your conversational tone here. Nice job.

This was really neat. I liked the flow and how you hooked me as the reader. P.S. if you don't mind, I'll share your secret.

I like the style of your story, very engaging. I kinda guessed the secret early on - someone already told me. :) I like how you twisted it around at the end and explained WHY you were treating it like a secret. Fabulous writing!
