I took the ring to my father thinking that maybe he had given it to her; but he had never seen it before. It must have been special to her because that she had kept it all these years.
I would have asked my mother but she was on her dying bed. Why would ask her something about a ring that in the bigger picture didn't mean much. So I just decide to wear the ring.
As I was visiting my mother, she grabbed my hand, I didn't understand why because she was just so weak. I tried to pull my hand out of her grib but the strength that she had in that one hand was so strong.
At that moment, my aunt walk into the room and smiled.
"I see that you found the ring," she said.
"What is so specail about this ring?" I asked.
"Your mother has been keeping all this time to give to you. It was suppose to be for you when you get married but I glad that you found it," she said with tears rolling down her eyes.
"I don't understand. What does this has to do with me?" I asked knowing in my heart that my world was about to end as I know it.
"Your mother got the ring from your real mother before she died. Your parents were in an accident where both your mother and father died. The ring was a symbol of their friendship and promise to take you as their daughter," she said.
"Why was I never told about this? Didn't anyone think that I had a right to know? I cried out.
I looked down at my mother and the tears roll down her face; I could only wonder why.
"You had a right to know but your mother felt guilty because she was driving the car that kill your parents. She always drank really heavy back in thoughs day and was to drunk to drive but did anyway. Your parents were riding with her and she lost control of the car. She felt guilty for years and still to this very day for the two lives that she took," my aunt explained.
How could the woman that I called mother for all of my life be the one that killed my parents? How can I forgive her for taking a life from me I never knew? But she and my father had raised me to forgive as Jesus forgive us.
