He once wore gossamer wings of white
head director of the choir
music filled his fingertips
but he thought himself much higher

Within his plans he turned away
winged messengers of the Light
from the only living God
he was cast into the night

Many followers too had come
their mouths spewed indignant fire
with wings clipped, each demon roared
that earth now was their desire

Though Hell and all of its infirmity
would one day be their fate
they sought whom they could devour
with diversions, fear and hate

The former leader of harmony
vowed he would avenge the King
but no power greater than God’s love
to the human race would bring

A messenger of truth and hope
born in the form of infant child
whose song would rewrite history
Man would be reconciled

His footsteps took him near yet far
into the caverns of the heart
He brought New Light to see the Way
salvation to impart

Each note of life upon His tongue
sang chords of splendid melodies
as one by one souls were restored
through Christ’s Holy Remedies

Suspended ‘tween Heaven and Hell
on a cross He would pay the Price
His precious blood spilled for Mankind
to Redeem through sacrifice

Satan hissed, “It’s over now!”
then turned around in frenzied shock
as Christ snatched the keys from his grasp
“Not so fast, I hold the lock!”

“For every stripe I had to bear
each scar and drop of blood
I won this battle fair and square
and now your name is mud”

From an earthly tomb Christ arose
To share the Victor’s song with friends
“I must go to prepare a place
I shall return again”

“Remember who you are in Me
My Holy Spirit shall abide
and be your Comforter and Friend
‘til the day you’re by My side”

“So shout with a voice of triumph
for you are now heirs to My throne
saved by grace, go share the Good News
You shall never walk alone”

No gossamer wings but feet of clay
we are directors of Christ’s choir
as our lives sing the Victor’s Song
and praise the Lord who’s higher…

I almost could feel a crescendo as this progressed. I absolutely loved the stanza where satan hissed and Jesus had the key. This was very nicely done!

There is elegance here and drama reminiscent of Dante. In a few verses you have an epic that captures the essence of the gospel - all the way from Lucifer's rebellion when 1/3 of the angels followed him, to man's broken relationship with his Creator, then Christ and our redemption and victory in Him.
