Entry Title: MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC
How beautiful and pleasing are the sounds of music!
We hear music in the sounds made by man, nature and God. By man in vocals and instrumentals; by nature in a bubbling brook, the singing of the turtledove, and the wind blowing through the trees; by God in the voice of the Lord upon the waters, the voice of the Lord in the thunder, and the still small voice in our heart.
Music is mentioned many times in the Old Testament. It was an early invention in Genesis. Many passages divide music into two parts-vocal and instrumental. It is interesting that the only time the word "music" is used in the New Testament is in the story of the return of the prodigal son. Here the Father called for a feast and the older brother came near the house and heard music and dancing.(Lu 15:25 Amp)
Music is all around us; in our homes, in the church, in the world.
Some of it is good, some of it is not so good, but all of it has a powerful effect.
The Jews used music in sacred processions, at laying the foundation of the temple, at the consecration of the temple, at the coronation of kings, at the dedication of the city walls, to celebrate victories, in religious feasts, in private entertainments, in dances, in funeral ceremonies, and in commemorating great men. Even the movement of armies was regulated by music.
Music aids us in worship, helps us celebrate, calms us down, lifts us up and strengthens our faith. Music brings joy at weddings and comfort at funerals. Music often brings a sense of the presence of the Lord.
God beautifully uses the principles of music to convey gentle messages to us. "Make melody in your heart to the Lord" (Eph 5:19 Amp) "Keep the harmony and oneness of the Spirit" (Eph 4:3 Amp) and "Learn the unforced rhythms of grace" (Matt 11:28 Message)
How bland the world would be without music, music, music!!
Thank you, Lord, for the sounds of music!!
