When did you last participate in a race? Did you watch it on television or in person? The runners whatever the distance they must run get to the starting line. Then they wait eagerly and nervously for the signal to get going on this important event. The crowd eagerly waits for the signal to begin. The tension rises as all look and listen.
Then suddenly it happens. The moment everyone has anticipated and prepared to happen. Someone says something like, “On your mark, get set, go!” At that moment, a signal sounds, and off the runners go! Will they make it? Will they fall? Will they drop from the race at some point? Or will they finish and win the prize?
Does this sound like life? Yes, it does. Paul in 1 Corinthians 9 describes the life of a Christian as a race to run. In running a race, one must follow the rules of the event or else become disqualified and have to drop out. However, all run in the race but one wins the prize. The prize in this case of the Christian life: to finish the race and receive the prize from the Lord Himself. The prize comes from God who will reward us according to our works. In your race of life, how will you finish? How will I finish this race of life? Only God knows for sure, and only He can give the reward to each runner accordingly as deserved.
