Every person has the potential to be a skilled crafts worker in God’s kingdom. King Solomon employed skilled craftsman to build the Temple to house the Ark of the Covenant. Working together using their talents from the Lord, they constructed a building sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. They knew how to mold gold, silver, bronze, iron, stone and wood into a massive and beautiful structure. Their skill in working with different materials was a gift from God.
Like the skilled artisans of Solomon’s day, we have skills and the unique ability to work with our hands to produce beautiful objects that will honor and glorify God. There are many ways we can use our unique skills, talents, and gifts. No skill or craft is more important than another. How we use our gifts impacts the work of God’s kingdom.
Craftsmen are artists who work with their hands to create beauty. After a carpenter lays the foundation for a building using wood and nails, other craftsmen add embellishment and decoration. Stained glass windows reflect God’s natural beauty when colors and light dance on the walls and floor of a room. Seamstresses and upholsterers add fabric and comfort to the interior furnishings. Metalworkers shape light fixtures into symmetric designs bringing warmth and comfort. When using skilled craftsmen for the glory of God the possibilities are endless.
Without skilled craftsmen to beautify and embellish our surroundings, our existence would be dull and mundane. If we ignore the use of our skills and talents given to us as gifts from the Lord then we are not fulfilling his will and plan for our lives. God uses our skills to create beauty and adornment in His created world.
