What is it that can take you back in to history in a flash, or send you thousands of years into the future? What can send you into realms unknown or into rooms with people you never imagined you would meet? Reading is the only activity you can partake of at anytime to do these remarkable feats. Reading challenges your mind and, if you are reading the most incredible book ever written, it can save your soul. Of course that book would be none other than the true word of God, the Bible.
Reading this remarkable book can take you to amazing places. It can let you see the world at its dawning or walk onto the battlefield with the brave young man David to battle the giant. Reading the most important book in history can take you to the saddest day in history as you see our Christ hanging on a cross and follow it up with the most miraculous day of his resurrection from the grave.
Almost every person in the world can read and yet most of us take for granted this ability. To take letters and form words into coherent thoughts that can have such impact on a life. We are blessed in this country to be able to use this ability without persecution to read the words written by prophets and apostles guided by the hand of God. To open up at anytime in any number of translations the only words that will matter in the end. The words that will give us hope and guidance, the words that will strengthen our faith and encourage our hearts to live daily in a world that tries so hard to knock us down. Only by reading these words can we know how we are to live and what God expects of our lives. It is only through reading that we can know God, who He is and of His marvelous Son.
One has so many choices in the world today of what to read, there are any number of novels or articles, both good and bad. It is only by reading Godís book that we can distinguish for ourselves other forms of entertainment that are worth reading and what to avoid. In the book of 2 Timothy chapter 3 and in verses 16 and 17, Paul writes to Timothy what the reading of the scriptures can accomplish. ďAll Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteous, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.Ē NKJ
It is only by daily reading and studying this awesome literary masterpiece that we can more understanding and a deeper relationship with its eternal author. One can never read it enough to learn all its lessons. Each time you open it up you will gain something new to use in your life. This is the only book you can read for a lifetime and keep hearing Godís voice. The only book truly worth reading, and reading, and reading again.
