The anniversary of my son’s accident.
You might wonder why I choose to remember this time?
The night when my world seem to be rocked on its foundations.
The time I realised that bad things do happen to Christians.
For in remembering I also recall the pain, fear and uncertainty of that night.
The memory tag that is etched into my soul.
That protective bubble around me seemed to have been popped.
I wonder why it is that when we learn something in the midst of pain we seem not to loose hold of it as easily as in other times?
The first thing that I learnt is that god can give you a sense of peace that defies the situation you are in.
It doesn’t make sense, it isn’t logical, but never the less, you have it.
The incredible calm that I could feel in the midst of crisis.
The peace of god that passes all understanding.
The knowledge that seems to flood your soul.
No matter how the situation goes your god is in control and no matter what you have to face, you will be up to it.
God walks alongside of you in a way unimaginable at any other time.
So near to you that you can almost touch him.
It is almost impossible to describe to one who hasn’t experienced it.
Then there are the people of god who surround you with prayer.
You can almost hear heaven being bombarded with them.
The knowledge that someone, somewhere is lifting you and yours up before the throne of god.
What a blessing to the one in need.
Speaking as one who has been in the thick of it…
Don’t discount just how much your prayers help.
Sometimes you are so consumed by the moment that you can only murmur
“Help me God”
It is so important to know that others stand in the gap for you at such times.
Having been through the near death of a child I can tell with all honesty that when god says he will never leave you or forsake you, he means it.
I can testify to the very real help you get from god in the moment of crisis.
The thought of going through any crisis without that help is unthinkable.

Philippians 4:7
And the peace of god, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

I could fully relate to your story. When my daughter wound up on a life support machine at three months of age, I was 'carried' and given supernatural peace which only God can give. Thank you for sharing. Deborah

I can totally relate to every word you wrote, as my daughter too, suffered from a horrible accident. You really captured the emotional roller coaster.

You discribe your feelings very well. Good Job!

Yes, our God is faithful, and His peace surrounds us in all things. The world often wonders why we aren't upset, falling apart, angry, but they have yet to experience the peace we know in the midst of a crisis. So many tragic situations in this lifetime, but God is our refuge in these times. Amen to your article.
