Friendship Acrostic

Give your friends liberty to make mistakes. Wait, and let them ask you for advice.

R espect
The Bible says to esteem others more than yourself. (Philippians 2:3) Say positive, uplifting words about your friends.

I nspire
We need to be a breath of fresh air and arouse bright ideas into the hearts and minds of our friends.

E ffort
We must exert strength and power into our friendships to keep them alive and thriving.

N ecessity
Friendships are needful and essential in our lives. Everyone needs a friend.. Seek out a person who needs
one.

D ecrease
John said,” He must increase, but I must decrease”. (John 3:30)Let’s ask the question,” What can I do for my friend today, more than, what can my friend do for me?

S elective
Choose your close friends carefully and discriminately. ‘He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”
(Prov.13:20) …” a whisperer separateth chief friends. (Prov. 16:28)

H umor
Tell each other jokes. Share funny stories and laugh together when life begins to get you down.

I nvolve
Include new and old friends alike in church activities and encourage them
to invite others as well.

P eace
“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”
(Romans 12:18). Forgiveness is the basis of peace. Friends can say and do things that hurt our feelings. Be honest and apologize. If you are the recipient then, forgive and forget and go on.

Father God, help us to be true friends. Jesus called His disciples friends. He shared His heart with them. He patiently taught them and answered their questions. He rebuked them in love. He had special pet names for them. He cooked them breakfast and washed their feet! He prayed with them. He forgave them. He loved them until the end. Help us to be a friend like Jesus!
