Art In The Hand Of God

If you have ever stood atop a bluff in the hills of North Carolina, or on the edge of a cliff on the shores of California, or even in a field of yellow and white daisies in the unnoticed state of Indiana, you will know the true meaning of art.

Art in the hand of God is a spectacular sight to behold and we witness His artistry in many ways. In the changes of the seasons, in the skies at dawn and dusk, after a summers rain storm or a winters fresh snow. Somehow, I believe that it is another way for God to lavish His love upon us; to feast our eyes upon the beauty of His hand on the canvas of this world.

In Job, the hand of God and His artistry is pictured in the words to describe God creating the universe:
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shout for joy?
Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, “This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt?”--Job 38:4-11 (NIV)

They say art is in the eye of the beholder, but isn’t it also in the heart of the artist’s skilled hand? If you can imagine the loving, painstaking strokes of the Old Masters, how much more the hand of God who in his ultimate glory and wisdom, created everything we see and everyday paints a new morning for us to open our eyes to. Open your eyes and feast upon it and see that the Lord is Good!

So true! A good reminder that the most beautiful art was done by the Creator of all the other artists.
