TITLE: Penning for the Soul
By Theresa Lovell

Let me share my passion with you. My passion is writing. Writing cleanses my soul through expressing myself in a variety of ways and meeting the challenge God has given me. As I write each word, they fuse together to express the feelings trapped inside of me. God's greatest commandment is to love Him with all your mind and soul. By releasing the pent up feelings from indiscretions, I become closer to God. I am giving Him back His words that He has given me. Proverb 3:3 states, "Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart." (ESV-English Standard Version) By writing His Word on my heart, I am placing Him in the core of my being. It gives me a foundation that will not crumble.

Writing is exquisite and expressed in a variety of ways. I keep a journal to record my prayers, thoughts, experiences, and feelings. I can go back to my journal entries and see revelations that I did not know God was giving me at the time I wrote them. I can see prayers that have been answered in ways that I had never imagined. I write poetry to describe the beauty and the wonders of God. Some of the poems I write can also be dismal, for this world contains both good and evil. My dismal poems have brought hope to others because they know that someone else feels the same way and they are not alone. I write devotions. Devotions take Scripture and reveal a point of view to ponder upon which can bring new insight and spiritual growth.

Writing can be a challenge. The greatest written pieces are ones inspired by God. The challenge comes when I have to step outside of myself and truly listen to God. Allowing God to work through me is a great honor. It is a wonderful gift to be able to bring His Word to the world. I boldly face the challenge to pull close to Him so I can hear what He wants me to write for others. When I write for me, I get even closer to Him for that is when my soul speaks to Him.

God has a plan that surpasses all understanding. God inspired great writers to give us the laws and guidelines for living. These writers penned the Words and collected them in the Bible which is a masterful history book, a reflection of who God really is, and a confirmation that the words I am writing are words directly from Him.

You did a nice job of expressing feelings that a lot of writers share.

A few uses of 2nd person in the first paragraph might be re-written for better flow...

I appreciate your spirit and your desire to use your gift for Him.

I loved the line about how writing cleanses the soul. Keep being obedient and sharing His heart through your pen!
