It was in early autumn that God placed a true friend into my life. A friendship like ours had such a simple, graceful quality to it, like the quiet of reading a good book.
Well... all good books must eventually come to an end. It was probably my melancholy nature that prodded me to feel the same way about friendship. I began to silently mourn, knowing the day would come when my kindred spirit would move away, out of my reach. I questioned God, asking why He would create such a friendship, only for it to last a season.
God answered. He told me that true friendship is not confined to a season. It holds seasons.
God created relationship to be a reflection of the communion He wants with us, and that is an eternal relationship. So should'nt it follow that our God-ordained friendships last longer than a season of our life, that they themselves have a sense of eternal kinship?
If God wants us to have a glimpse of His constancy, the friendships He provides us with will be the picture.

very nice message.

Excellent reminder of the brevity of earthly relationships. That's what heaven is for, where the sadness of goodbyes are forever made right by the reunion of eternal fellowship. Michale W. Smith's song "Friends are friends forever." came to mind as I read this. Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your heart.

Your commentary is an excellent and thought provoking analogy. Thank you. Linda Ellis
