Christmas Rescue

A local factory erects a lighted 15 ft. cross every Christmas in front where it can be viewed by passing travelers. Here’s why.

“Lifeguard” is written all over the ministry of Jesus. Everywhere He went He did things for people that were related to life and life giving, not the least of which was (and continues to be) eternal life. On one occasion He even was a “regular” lifeguard to Peter when Peter had his walk on the water experience. The most devastating aspect of the human condition is the curse of death resulting from man’s disobedience to God. God’s Word decreed both death and then also life, death to man for his transgression and life as His passion for man. (Ge.2:17, Jn.3:16) Noting that both decrees carry equal weight, how was God to maintain His integrity and carry out both? In His wisdom He already had a plan (or better yet “The Plan”) in place when Adam and Eve committed the first transgression. Jesus would be the Lifeguard. “God chose Him as your ransom long before the world began….” (1 Pe.1:20 NLT) God alone is the life-source. He alone holds the key to our escape from an impending “second death” destiny which is eternal separation from God. Our world is a vast swimming pool of sin from which we desperately need to be rescued. It is the devil’s playground and his influence is rampant.

Enter our Lifeguard. In Mt. 1 God told Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, “And she (Mary, Joseph’s wife) shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (KJV) What a mission of mercy that was! He, the sinless One, swam this vast pool of sin and eventually died in it as our Substitute and then rose from the dead as our Victor over death. Why? Because He loves us so infinitely much.

The Bethlehem part of the story is beautiful and wonderful to celebrate but like the local factory that erects a cross at Christmas lets appreciate more fully the expanded story and love and honor Him by showing Christmas love to everyone we meet. Perhaps we will have opportunity to do a Christmas rescue of our own in honor to Him Who performed the greatest rescue of all.

Amen. This is a very good reminder of our need to reach out for His sake. Good work

This is a great story on what the real meaning of Christmas is. The story started with the cross on the building but that was the last mention of it. It would have been nice to have given it a little more coverage later in the story. Great writing and keep up the good work. God Bless.
