Guard of Life
I found life’s waters raging deep
My footing there I could not keep
I had no rest nor did I sleep
Lifeguard
At first I fought and tried to scream
With horror knew this was no dream
Quickly I was losing steam
Lifeguard
Wrestling there, I did my best
But waters deep my soul did test
Aching heart within my breast
Lifeguard
Waves of anger crashing in
I heard Him speak, “But do not sin.
This is a war you cannot win.”
Lifeguard
Why did He not just pull me out?
I shook my fist and tried to shout
Again, a wave with foam of doubt
Lifeguard
All at once the fight was gone
Sinking deep, I’d played the pawn
But what was this I’d landed on?
Lifeguard
With all the fight now gone from me
I’d found the bottom of life’s sea
And there a treasure that is free
Lifeguard
With gasping breath, I drank the air
Now of His Presence full aware
Wrapped there in His Loving care
Lifeguard
Though often fools we blindly leap
Into life’s waters perilous deep
Our Lifeguard’s promise He will keep
He is the Guard of Life
