Larry, wearing long pants and a long sleeved t-shirt, was not your typical lifeguard in more ways than one. He was mocked often for being the most overdressed lifeguard anyone has ever seen but he would just say, “The Lord does not want me to be naked!” Around the beach he was also labeled as an oddball because he would sing the full first stanza of “Rescue the Perishing” every time he would pull someone to safety. Sometimes on his breaks he would even unsuccessfully try to walk on water!

Larry considered himself as acting two roles, doing two separate jobs with the same title. You see... Larry is a Christian. Oh, he is not an ordinary Christian that you see singing at church on Sunday but cursing at his wife the rest of the week. Larry was different because he thought that people must live their lives like Jesus would 24/7. He strived to be a lifeguard for those drowning at the beach, but also a lifeguard to those drowning in Satan’s river to Hell. Although Larry did not win a popularity contest, he lived a happy and truthful life, which is more than most people can boast about. Oh, how we need more people like Larry in the world!

Larry is certainly delightfully different, and I'd be interested in a longer story about him, perhaps telling about some of his rescues--both from water and from sin.

I was tripped up by a few details: it would be difficul to sing during a strenuous rescue, and I really don't think ordinary Christians sing on Sundays and then curse their wives the rest of the week.

I'd encourage you to edit and expand this--Larry's a character worth getting to know better.

I like the part about Larry having two jobs. Made me smile. And, I could envision Larry singing when pulling someone to safety. Good visual descriptions.

I did notice a little trouble with your "tense", a problem I have to work on too.

Good work.

Amen.
Larry is someone I'd love to know. He sounds like he lives out his testimony. Keep writing!

Larry does seem like a unique character. To be Christlike 24/7 is something we should all strive for.

Thank you sharing.

A sweet story of a lifeguard named Larry; with some very good reminders for all of us to think about and REMEMBER. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
