Larry, wearing long pants and a long sleeved t-shirt, was not your typical lifeguard in more ways than one. He was mocked often for being the most overdressed lifeguard anyone has ever seen but he would just say, “The Lord does not want me to be naked!” Around the beach he was also labeled as an oddball because he would sing the full first stanza of “Rescue the Perishing” every time he would pull someone to safety. Sometimes on his breaks he would even unsuccessfully try to walk on water!
Larry considered himself as acting two roles, doing two separate jobs with the same title. You see... Larry is a Christian. Oh, he is not an ordinary Christian that you see singing at church on Sunday but cursing at his wife the rest of the week. Larry was different because he thought that people must live their lives like Jesus would 24/7. He strived to be a lifeguard for those drowning at the beach, but also a lifeguard to those drowning in Satan’s river to Hell. Although Larry did not win a popularity contest, he lived a happy and truthful life, which is more than most people can boast about. Oh, how we need more people like Larry in the world!
