Nancy had thought on these words for most of the morning. What in the world could they possibly mean? Where in the world had they come from? Most of all, why did they compel her to ponder them? She truly had no anchor on this one.
She couldn’t sing, well, certainly she could in the church choir, but solos were out of the question. Simply put, she didn’t have the background, natural talent, nor acquired ability to teach anywhere near the vicinity of singing. If seriously put to the test, she couldn’t even fake it.
As for “teacher”, she wasn’t. Again, she could teach and had taught many a Bible study, but it was not a gift, not a compulsion, not something she was sought after to do. This whole wordage was a mystery, cryptic at best, and full-fledged. She wanted to scent it out.
Timmy had said the words not even a week ago. There was nothing unusual about the setting. They’d been two people in a playground. They weren’t related. They weren’t close neighbors. Nancy and Timmy, one a woman, children all grown; one a child, still caught in the wonderment of exploring his world. They’d connected and become fast friends.
Timmy was eight, sandy headed, blue eyed, and he had a grin that could hold any one of a thousand meanings just by the cock of his brow and the tilt in his chin. He’d meant it though, Nancy knew.
“Ok. So on with life.” She mumbled aloud to herself as she left her pondered thoughts to actually do the dishes.
“Lord, I know it is You who want to tell me something in Timmy’s words, but I don’t know what it is. What is it?” Nancy tried to sit quietly to listen, unable to do so, she got up and sat in her favorite rocker on the front porch.
Nancy didn’t hold the wonderment that Timmy still did. It had passed long ago as so often it does with growing up. God spoke to her now and said that it didn’t have to be that way. Wonderment indeed belongs to children, just as teaching is not from talent but from the words of the soul.
“You can teach Timmy to sing from his soul, if it is there that you sing from. He won’t see you there, He’ll see Me.”
“The wonderment that he has and you lack can be yours again if you remember that I am God, your Father, and you are a child of Mine. In Me, you won’t reach maturity until you are just and only that.”
“Truly, truly, I say to you that only from the songs in your soul can you become the teacher.”
Softly, Nancy asked, “Well, Lord, then how does Timmy know that?” It was Nancy’s soul that answered her this time. He doesn’t, you do, and now, you can teach him to sing.
