Who Do You Call

Who do you call when your cat’s in a tree?
When your kid come screaming with deeply skinned knees
Who do you call when your son’s having seizures?
Or his arms protruding strangely after his fall from the tree

Who’s the first person you want to see, when you’re hit by a drunk
Who ran the light nicely turning your car into a V.?
When you’re run off the road by a fast pace teen
Or your heart starts to flutter erratically

Who do you call when lightening strikes?
Sending all your fire alarms into ecstasy
The smoke so strong your neighbor’s house sounds an alarm
The tried and the true they are there for you.

Who do you call when an old friend falls?
When because of age they cannot stand up without aide
I can give you a hint if you want to hear
It’s not the Ghostbusters for those people aren’t real

Who do you call when your house is on fire?
When someone is stranded, or worse they are drowning
Who answers your call no matter the hour?
No matter the rain, the snow or cold

Who answers the call when your spouse has a stroke?
When someone stops breathing or is seriously choked
Few have the training or strength to calmly react
When everyone’s screaming and life for someone is fleeing

The life of a firefighter to them is a paying job
But to those of us on the receiving end
Sometimes it’s a chance to be saved to begin again
Yet there are those who sometimes do not win

I’d like to offer my thanks to them all
For many of these examples have been by my phone call
Many were nice and the kind calmness a reprieve
From dealing with a alarming calamity

Don’t forget you can visit
They will give you a tour
Share their workplace with a little child’s amazed face
Teach by example, showing care and concern

The outcome is not determined by what they do
For the Lord still has control over me and you
But God in His amazing grace, gave some the desire
To be rescuers in oh so many ways
Thank-you

What a heartfelt tribute! Working on your rhyme and meter would make this piece even better. Fine job!
