One big daddy yucca and 23 junior yuccas moved in here in recent years.
One momma rose of sharon with more babies than bunnies on a rabbit farm add color to our home.
We are knee deep in iris, tiger lilies and overrun with crown vetch.
My mother collected salt and pepper shakers until the family went on too many vacations to distant gift shops. We love flowers and have welcomed nearly half of every variety known to mankind. My wife has even been known to save flowering weeds. Just like mom we are running out of space. Three quarters of an acre is too small an area to be home to so much flora and so many pollinating species.
At first we planted flowers here there and every where except the horse shoe pits and the drive way. A couple years ago we decided to organize our plantings to an area over the septic tank and into a few dozen carefully organized beds. This permitted us to adopt more homeless plants to our teeming shores.
One more rhododendron, azalea or peony and we will have a denser population than Tokyo. We simply can not accept any new plants without first getting rid of some of the old ones. The dilemma is that we find it difficult parting with time tested friends or refusing to welcome new ones.
Our pastor recently asked us to accept a four year commitment to first study then teach the Bethel bible series. It sounds like a fantastic opportunity except our schedules are as over grown as our flower beds. We love everything that we are doing and don’t want to drop anything. We already went through the organizing phase to improve our efficiency. The only alternatives that our human minds can see are to quit accepting new activities or drop a few things so that we can accept something new. We still have hope because our God is a God of miracles and we are praying for one. Realistically however we know that God only gave us 24 hours in a day because he knew that 25 hours would kill us. He also gave us brains that he expects us to exercise from time to time.
A cluttered garden looks like a weed patch. A chaotic life style leaves well meaning Christians almost as ineffective as couch potatoes.
All of our plants are good. We need to determine which ones are best. All of our ministries are good. Our prayer needs to be that God will reveal those that are best.
