Topic: River (08/31/06)

TITLE: By River Bliss.
By emmanuel omogbeja

"I feel the urge to be alone with God this weekend, at the retreat centre",remarked Allen.I'd just be able to catch this night's train.
"Thats alright",replied Andy wearily.
"I guess you'd remember me in your prayers then, because i've just lost my job owing to the company's merger that came through last month".
Oh No!whined Allen. But why you, after four years of dedicated service?

This month hasnt been the best for Allen in terms of spates of bad news galore.

His sister-in-law, gave up the ghost immediately after she put to birth her first child in the labour room.
Though the baby made it.

Then,Barkley his dog too got killed in his very eyes,by a hit and run driver on the high street.

Now,the pain of seeing his flatmate, who had just given his life to Christ two months ago, suddenly turn jobless was too much to bear.

Arriving at the retreat centre early in the morning, having slept through the night having a hangover of unanswered questions he checked in and decided to take a long walk.
Why,Oh Lord,He asked,What have these souls dont to deserve these painful mishaps?
By the River Bliss,he layed back on the grass looking deep into the sky, with sounds of running water giving a peaceful rhythmn in the background.

"Psalm 46",He heard his spirit pick up this Bible reference amidst the unrest in his soul, as though a radar that picking up a distinctive sound on a frequency field.
He read through the chapter and said,"Speak Lord for thy son listens".

The Spirit of God then summarized the chapter for my understanding;

"Did you know that this River Bliss started as a pool, then a stream before it increased to become the river it is today"?
"You see the people sit down with their fish-hooks in it,prey birds aim at the fishes in the water, and the fruitful trees florishing by its bank, but you dont see the days and periods of trouble the river must overcome in terms of pain".
"Toxic and other human wastes are daily poured into it,apart from droughts from adverse weather conditions it has to put up with.
"These are some of the pains it encounters in its service to mankind".

"I have called you my redeemed, as a royal priesthood,an holy nation with pure temples for my Spirit".
"I am the River of Life, the giver of Life and Peace while you are to be little rivers dishing out streams of hope and encouragement to others".

"With respect to your friends that are passing through hard times at this stage of thier lives, like the river they ought to make me thier refuge, because i am He that knows the end from the beginning".
"What if i told you that your sister-in-law is happy here with me in paradise, but, would have lost eternity, had she lived to see another day"!
"I also allowed Andy to lose his job because i had a better job package for him which would give him more freedom to fellowship with me than the choked-up job he was stuck in"!

"Like this River with its ever calm facade and the many shakings it endures,so are you my children to be rivers that make my heart glad as a good channel and ambassadors of my Kingdom in this polluted passing World".

Allen's face was soaked in sweat as He got up, shocked God could visit Him just within short notice!

Very nicely done! It reminds me that "all things work together for them that love the Lord". He always cares for us and can turn any situation around.
