From Water Comes A New Beginning

Branches of the weeping willow tree swayed gently as the warm summer breeze swept over the crowd at the rivers edge. It was the Sunday that marked our annual Baptism service held community wide.

Today there were 5 that had stepped out on Faith and asked Jesus into their hearts and now were to be cleansed anew for the new life that awaited them in Christ.

The River was not very big, but its purpose that day was far more significant than size. We had just finished my favorite song “Amazing Grace” when our pastor waded out into the water.

My heart was beating wildly beneath my flesh as the joy held within threatened to burst free while he spoke. “Welcome to our third annual Baptism service. There is no greater happiness for a pastor than the opportunity to watch people come to know Our Lord Jesus as their Savior, and baptize them into the family of God."

With a motion of the Pastors hand, I moved from the bank into the murky water to join him. Words could not express the overwhelming sense of happiness that had filled my life since I asked Jesus into my life.

Standing in front, the pastor’s hand went to my back while his other held out as a support for me to hold on to. “My sister, I baptize you in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.”

As soon as he spoke those words, I closed my eyes, my body being submerged into the water. When I opened my eyes again, I felt like a new person, body and soul.

The river water, with Gods Holy Words cleansed me white as snow. Now my new life had begun. Tears streamed down my face as my lips curled into a radiant smile. I wanted everyone to know that Jesus now lived in me.

When the service concluded and everyone started to go home, I stopped our pastor on the way to his car, giving him a big hug. “Thank you for showing me what I had been searching for all this time…. Jesus…. This feeling of peace consumes me, the burdens that weighed my heart is no more.”

A sweet, sincere smile spread across the Pastors face, tears swam within his eyes. “This is a new beginning for you. Go; tell the gospel to your friends and family so that the joy and happiness you felt can be shared. It is our duty as Christians. Trust in Jesus to be your guide and remember today as a symbol of your commitment to God.”

With a nod I turned to head towards my own vehicle. I stopped before opening the door and prayed.

“Dear God, you have opened a new door for me in my life. Praise your Holy Name for wanting me to be a child of yours. Thank you God for this river that flows freely, your words and water cleansed me through and through, washing away all my sin. In Jesus wonderful name I pray AMEN.”

Lovely! It rings true, and its simplicity makes it very satisfying.

What a sweet testimony!

Watch your capitalization; you have several words capitalized that need not be.

Otherwise, a beautiful story of a wonderful stop in faith's journey.

What a wonderful testimony! I enjoyed really getting into the character's thoughts throughout. Nice job!
