Music has always played a major role in my life. My mother taught herself to play the piano when she was a young girl and to this day, at the age of 71 years old, she still has a beautiful soprano voice. When we were in elementary school, my mother taught my brother, Ken, my sister, Sherry, and I how to sing and harmonize together, and she taught me to sing solo’s. We lived in a small town in Illinois, and we would sing in local talent shows. Whenever there were family get-togethers, we would sing for our relatives and friends.

When I was in the 5th grade I sang a solo in front of the entire school, in honor of our principal’s anniversary. I sang the Christian song ‘Whispering Hope’. I was so scared but the Lord gave me the courage to get through it, and everyone told me for weeks that it was beautiful. My sister and my brother were so proud of me. I was also one of a few people chosen from my school to sing at a county choir for a special performance celebrating Independence Day that year.

In junior high school, I sang in the chorus. In high school I tried out and was accepted into an all girls chorus. In the 9th grade my older sister, Sherry, asked me to sing in a special group of girls that were 11th graders, so I sang with them for a while. In the 12th grade I tried out for the highest singing group in school, The Echoes, and made it. It was a wonderful year of performances at many different places.

When I was 18 years old, I walked forward in a little church, and gave my life to Jesus. My singing took on a whole new meaning for me then. God’s melody moved into my heart. I began singing solo’s in church and one of the first songs I sang was ‘The Love of God’. Here are some of the words, “The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell. It goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell. God gave His Son to win; His erring child He reconciled and pardoned from his sin. O love of God how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forever more endure the saints and angels song!”

What a wonderful testimony! Isn't it amazing how God uses our talents even more once we are his?? Thanks for sharing this with us!

What a lovely telling of your being introduced to and really finding music.

I find myself so curious about each of these stories now, and wanting to know more about how you felt, and the inner details.

Must be the historian in me. You've caught my interest and pulled me in, with only a few words. Very nice.
