Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made (Gen. 3:1a, KJV).

“Aww, come on Shelly. Ain’t nobody but you gotta git home so early on a Friday night.”

“Rob, I done tol’ you I can’t go. My father’d kill me.”

“Shoot girl. How long you gonna let your ol’ man tell you what to do? Hmm? Come on an’ spen’ some time wit’ me.”

Shelly was tired of a 10 o’clock curfew. Maybe this one time’d be okay.

Six weeks later….

The joint was jumping, the bass beat rumbling in Mark’s chest. He knew he ought to leave but he was the only one of his friends who hadn’t made the frat scene, so when they asked him to tag along Mark thought ‘just this one time prob’ly won’t hurt.’

Shortly after arriving Mark had a drink in hand and a beautiful, voluptuous, raven-haired beauty was leading him to the sofa in a darkened corner of the room….

Dominique had been slaving for six years for Kodiak Photo Systems with no raise, no promotion. She had only been out sick once when that bad flu season hit last year. She’d had to train her new boss on the latest equipment. That job should have been hers. Dominique was tired of being passed over. Wanting what was rightfully hers, she began checking her email and calling her mom long-distance. Her boys could use a few supplies for school too. Kodiak owed her that much. Didn’t they?

Enrique and Roma had been arguing a lot lately. After losing his job of fifteen years, Roma had been belittling Enrique and telling the children that he didn’t love them anymore since he wasn’t providing for their needs. Did they need $100 tennis shoes and designer jeans? Was eating out wise when cooking at home was cheaper? He was pounding the pavement daily yet had no real job leads. Maybe he should make that run for Phil. It would be easy money….

Alberto and Manny had been best friends for nine years. They were inseparable. Then Jolitha caught Alberto’s eye. Manny became insanely jealous since he had liked Jolitha first. Never mind that Alberto didn’t know. They always got together on Thursdays after practice to study for Mr. Worther’s regular quizzes. Imagine the shock on Alberto’s face when he opened the door to the .357 in Manny’s hand….

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do (John 8:44a, KJV)
He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God (John 8:47).

Refreshing look at how we need to be shrewd when temptation hits. It would have been good to have had a scripture verse with the word shrewd in it at the end to help it fit in with the theme more.

Oh, what a chilling read to think of all the small ways we let the serpent lead. Indeed, we need to be shrew in today's world if we are to escape. So many subtle thoughts here that made me think and think.

WOW! This was great! You did a terrific job of showing just how cunning Satan can be! Two thumbs up!
