"Can I feel the cross of Jesus" these were the words my two year old son said to me last night as I laid him down to sleep for the night. My husband had bought be a beautiful handmade cross for a silver necklace I had while on a business trip to Missisippi. It replaced a three diamond necklace he had bought me early in our marriage. But the cross meant so much more to me then and now to my two children. The first time I realized how important it was to my son was after a trip my husband and I took to Mexico. After 9 days I couldn't wait to hold my 10 month old in arms and rock him to sleep. Only a few moments passed and my son was rubbing the cross between his fingers and looking at me with a big smile. Even now as he is getting too big to rock to sleep there are brief moments when he will ask me to touch the cross. Our discussions about Jesus and his journey to the cross has taught him to refer to it as the cross of Jesus. As I nurse my three month old baby girl she too reaches up to touch the cross. Her brother and I both tell her stories of Jesus and his journey to the cross. Maybe she will wear this cross and tell her children of his wonderful journey.
