It started innocently enough. My then five year old son and I were having a conversation about a turtle as we were driving along the highway.

“It was really big, Mom” he said with his eyes wide with wonder. “But it wasn’t bigger than God.”

Not wanting to interrupt his train of thought, I sat silent.

“God is so big, Mom. God is like the hugest bridge across the biggest ocean. And if you stay close to that bridge, no matter what happens in the water, you’ll always be safe.”

Tears formed in my eyes as I was astounded by his childlike faith and deep theology. I have thought about his statement, striking in it’s simplicity, many times.

I have since come to view the cross of Christ in the same way. The cross is our bridge between heaven and earth, across the ocean that we refer to as life. As long as we stay close to that cross, nothing that happens can harm us. That cross is our guarantee that “nothing can separate us from the love of God.”

"In the cross, in the cross,
be my glory ever,
till my raptured soul shall find
rest beyond the river." (William H. Doane, 1869)

What I liked about it - I loved the dialogue and the boy's description. Immediately captured my attention. This would make a great devotional.
What I might change - Maybe make it abit longer- perhaps only because it was so good - I hated it to end.

I wish it were longer, too! It's short but profound. Bravo!
Good title, too. Scooped me in!

Definitely a great message - and I also would have loved for you to take this a bit further, made it a touch longer. I also adored the title. Nice job!

I liked where this was going but then it stopped. I think this would be a great piece if it could be fleshed out a little more. Keep writing :)
