The air is stagnant,
nothing stirs,
shadows are nowhere to be found.

The distant cry of an animal
breaks the stillness.
The sound echoes my loneliness.

Hunger gnaws at my insides,
my heels are raw,
my legs burn in refusal,
and yet the path goes on.

I see green grasses before me,
and the vines that sweep up the trees.
And then,
a trickling stream;
I walk beside it,
desperate for its coolness.
I reach down to touch it
my fingers return to my lips
my tongue only feels the dust.
The beauty was an oasis.
A temporary reprieve
Another injustice

“Where are you God?”
I cry out to Him,
but I don’t feel His answer.
I have reached that desperate place.

I seek light,
but there is none.
I search for a place to rest,
but I find no comfort.
The quiet is like a vise on my soul.

Then,
a sliver of light escapes the darkness,
a slight breeze moves my hair,
it reminds me
I am not alone.

I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me.
The Words,
They come so sweetly.
I remember His promise,
I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
I feel Him now,
He is beside me,
whispering the promises of tomorrow.
We will walk through this valley together,
I am no longer afraid.

Psalms 23: 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. KJV

Hebrews 13:5 ..for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. KJV
