I have been through the valley many times in my life, but this time is the one that stands out in my heart. Years ago as I was being treated for mental illness at the State Hospital, I was put on a medication that made me very sick. It caused me to feel so nervous that I felt that I would go crazy. I could not sit still and walked the halls of the hospital incessantly. I was on this medicine for over a week, and because of it I had to be put into an isolation room many times because of my behavior. I remember getting down on my knees on the cold hard floor and crying out to God for help. I would always receive a peace beyond understanding and would sing praises to my King. Often, I would bow down, cover my head with my right hand, and pray to God to put His hand on mine, and protect me from my suffering. As the days went on, I became very weak and was unable to walk any more. I would pull myself around on the ground to get from one place to another. During this time, my parents brought my 3 children to visit me, but I could not stand up. The staff threatened that they would send my children home without seeing me if I didn’t walk, but I could not. I cried out to God for help. I wanted to see my family so bad, and it was a four hour drive for them to come. Finally, a staff member brought me a wheel chair and took me out to see them. The children were so happy to see me that they didn’t seem to pay any attention to the wheel chair. It was one of the happiest times of my life. After my family left, I was taken back into the ward and the wheel chair was taken away from me. A few days later, I was finally taken off the medication, and I physically recovered. Years later, I know that God had carried me through this valley with His hand upon my head.
