In the innocence of her youth,
a child dared to dream.
Her passion and drive
that consumed all her days,
was a longing to fly and be free.
With feet that were light,
but a heart shackled down,
Grace struggled to be all her own.

One day, while alone,
she sang a soft tune,
and danced with the wind at her toes,
as visions of butterflies, flitting around,
flooded her heart and her nose.
Wings in all colors,
beat beautiful breezes
and roses sent forth
a melodious scent
that carried her up to the clouds.

As Grace looked around,
she suddenly found
her dreaming had gained in its power.
Feeling the freedom of wind in her hair,
her arms held out wide,
Grace flew higher
and sang louder
her sweet little tune.

The birds that passed by
would gather her tune
and carry it higher and further
to share with their own far away.
The tune that she sang
continued to grow
till the Lord himself,
on Heaven’s throne,
stood to gaze upon her.

Looking down, the Father above
smiled, full of pride.
Then little Grace, full of song,
heard a rustle of heavy wings.
An angel choir assembled there
to join the sound of innocence in song.

Angelic voices sang harmony,
the sun grew brighter too,
all of creation was listening
as Grace’s heart and soul
poured out its song of praise.
Her hopes and her dreams
she now could see
as a part of God’s great plan.

A circle of wings danced about Grace
as angels, hand in hand, flew round.
The song now softened
and Grace was greatly blessed.
For on her cheek
a kiss was placed
from the Father God,
and Grace’s heart was filled.

“I want you to dance,”
the Father now spoke,
“to sing and to fly, my child.
Life is full of things
that weigh you down.
Take my song and sing it loud,
for freedom comes in song.
Look not on things upon the ground,
but see as I do now.
You are free, my sweet young child,
and I am on the throne.”

The gentle words brought hope to Grace
and angels carried her down to earth.
Singing now a brand new tune,
Grace began to rest.
Waking fresh and feeling peace,
Grace had lived her dream.
Now “go and tell” she sang out loud
and sought somewhere to share.

THis was beautiful and evocative. The free verse structure well suited the subject of the poem, and at times I felt I was flying with Grace. Well done.
