Jerry's wife needed a coat, and the full leather coat would be a good one. All black, pockets, and a turn up collar, made it a fit for her wardrobe.
The sales lady said "That's the price."
"No sales going on ?"
"No"
"Will there likely be a sale soon on those coats ?"
"I doubt it ?"
"Let me look at it some more"
Jerry strolled to the coat, and took it off the hanger. Methodically going through it starting on the inside, Jerry examined every inch of that coat. But he couldn't find any flaw. He then looked at all of them in his wife's size, but with the same luck.
Thoughtfully Jerry took one and returned to the sales lady at the cash register.
"I really like this coat, but shouldn't it have a belt ?"
"That would go good with it."
"And there should be a matching purse also, shouldn't there ?"
"That would make it a more complete outfit."
Pausing, Jerry then said, "How about those two items and the coat for the $199 ?"
The sales lady shook her head, and said "No I cannot do that"
But Jerry was not giving up yet. "Suppose we ask the manager, and that will take you off the hook ?"
She frowned, but said "okay" and she left to find the manager.
The manager smiled and said "Hello. I understand you are interested in the black coat you have here ?"
"Yes, I am."
"We don't normally do what you are asking. But let me check out the coat."
The manager took it and went back to her office. Looking up the cost of the coat she then called her manager and related what Jerry wanted.
After awhile she returned with the coat.
Smiling, the sales smile, she approached Jerry.
"I will do part of what you want. We will give you a purse that matches the coat, but you will have to buy a belt."
"Alright, and thank you."
"Let Marge help you pick out a purse and a belt."
"Thank you again."
Jerry and Marge went looking for a purse and belt. She said while they were looking, "I wouldn't have ever believed that if I hadn't seen it."
"Marge, I believe in asking. One has a 50-50 chance of a yes."
"I have to remember that when I shop."
"Remember that it only works for big ticket items."
"I will."
"I hope it did not cause you any problem."
"No it didn't"
"Here we are."
The two of them selected a suitable purse and belt. Marge then took them and packaged them.
Jerry paid and left with a coat his wife would love.
