As I look across
the field
in the early morning light
a warm summer rain
comes—gently
then pours
itself
through dry, dusty
stale air
onto the parched cracked lips
of the dirt
allowing it to drink
its heavenly refreshment—
and I breathe deeply
as the earth
exhales the feel of clean.

I gaze across
the backyard
as the midday sun
smiles down
upon
Grandmother’s
freshly washed sheets
that refuse
to simply hang in a hush
in the heavenly breeze
they dance
flapping and fluttering
flowing and showing
their white sheen—
and I inhale their freshness
as they
exhale the feel of clean.

As I stand
at the end of day
surveying my landscape
and shadows deepen
across my weary soul
the Holy Spirit
comes—gently
then pours
himself
into my dry, dusty
staleness
and I drink deeply
of the living water
immerged
in its rivers of love
and prayer and praise
I cannot
be hushed or stilled
for my spirit
overflows
in heavenly language—
and I breath in
the wonder of my washing
and delight of my dance
as I
exhale the feel of clean.

WOW - I loved this. It touched my heart. It was so inspiring from beginning to end, and the reference to singing and dancing in "heavenly language" as the living waters flowed, fully embraced me.

Beautiful! Thank you.

God bless~

Oh and I meant to say that I always say that Heaven will smell like sheets fresh from the line. It doesn't matter how sick I am there is something about line-fresh sheets that make me feel better and now I know why--the feel of Clean! God's gift to me!

This one leaps out of the screen and into our hearts, so it's only right that it should sit at the top of the heap. Well done, and congratulations on your win.

Congratulations Linda! Your poem is beautiful. I love the imagery - the rain, the dancing breeze likened to the Holy Spirit. A well-deserved 1st place.

Love this poem! I work in recovery and there is always talk of becoming "clean"...this would be a perfect devotional for recovery groups.

The repetition of the last line serves to reinforce the strength of the insight you are sharing.

This is my first ever FaithWriters review, but I just had to add my comment of how much I enjoyed reading this.
