The leopard with the goat
The lion and calf in peace abide
Each licks the other’s coat.
The cow and bear both eating grass
The calf the cub’s best friend
A little child plays with the asp
Beside the viper’s den
The lioness and ox eat straw
Their enmity reversed
Such wonders holy prophets saw,
The earth no longer cursed.
Where nothing hurts and none destroys
In all His holy hill
The peace of God the earth enjoys—
This Word’s a promise still.
Exotic hopes we entertain,
We know these things will be
The end of curse and death and pain
And every enmity.
Exotic city, streets of gold
A shining jasper gem
Our eyes of faith with joy behold
The New Jerusalem.
Like Abraham in ancient days
This city in his view
Remained unfazed despite delays—
God’s promises are true.
Press on in faith, though enemies
Might mock the hopes you hold
To you like him God guarantees
You’ll walk those streets of gold.
