Scarlet cord in open casement, sign of shameful sad debasement,
Suspended, hanging in its placement, an emblem of her trade.
Scarlet cord, three yarns tight twisted, spoke of what her life consisted,
Purity and good resisted, wrong choices she had made,
Depicted by the scarlet cord, the three yarns of her trade:
Sin, guilt and wrong portrayed.
Known throughout her land and nation, blackened by bad reputation,
Immoral by association, her livelihood - a whore.
Yet her aching heart was yearning, for the truth she longed, discerning
That there was the hope of turning from a life so poor,
Was there saving and redemption from a life so poor?
She yearned for something more.
Now her pounding heart was beating, from the God pre-ordained meeting,
Now she watched the spies retreating, into dark-filled night.
Now she knew God was Creator, Powerful, Mighty, no-one greater,
And she trusted Him, her Maker, to save her from her plight.
Placed her all into His Hands to save her from her plight,
Knowing this was right.
All around the ground a’rumbling, all the buildings started tumbling,
All the city walls came crumbling; her family and she
Safely hid within her dwelling, with the scarlet cord a’telling
Just as promised by foretelling, God would rescuer be.
Trusting in her Lord and Saviour, He would rescuer be,
A Heavenly guarantee.
Scarlet cord, thrice twisted finely, oath and promise kept divinely
God in Heaven rewarded kindly, faith that to Him cleaved.
Three fold cord, a picture token, of God’s Word revealed and spoken,
Three-fold cord cannot be broken, - Repent and Trust, Believe
His Promises will ne’er be broken, He welcomes all who believe.
Just simply come, receive.
