Here in the tender hush of this loving, velvet quiet,
at the end of a long, long day,
here in the amber light of our gentle lullaby,
in the moment when busy days finally slip away.
O Child, be filled with peace and good courage.
When the fearful shadows creep across the lawn,
I will keep them all at bay, until the break of dawn,
when the monsters growl in the unseen, hidden night,
I will fight them off one by one, until the morning light.
O Child, be filled with peace and good courage.
When the heavy, heavy winds rise up and push their weight against you,
we will lean headfirst with all our might, you and I, until we make it through,
when the storms snarl with angry thunder and lightning shards of fire,
we will drink cups of cozy, cocoa chocolate, you and I, until the tempest tires.
O Child, be filled with peace and good courage.
When the road, the sometimes stony, winding road, turns far too long and steep,
we will climb higher, higher, you and I, for there is a destiny we must keep,
when the shoulders ache and the back is weak, when the work becomes so slow,
we will nap beneath the maple trees, you and I, so to hear the river flow.
So my Child, be filled with peace and good courage,
here, in the loving quiet,
here, in the amber light of dreams.
