Every discovery
Begins with an experiment—
Every crumb of truth
Has a cost.
I do not find God
By slouching on the couch
Of conformity,
But by dipping my toes
Into fire,
And daring unknown seas
To find new worlds.
There may come days
That I stumble in the dark,
And look like a fool
When I fall flat on my face,
But I know that if I stay frozen
In my fear,
I will never find the light.
Failures may be as plentiful
As the faults
In my pockets,
But each one
Refines my focus,
Adjusting my aim
A little nearer the mark
Each time I try.
The world may think I’m groping
After fantasies,
That I stumble after phantoms
Which I will never find,
That I will toss away my fortune
Gambling with my fate,
But I’m convinced
That this journey through the dark
Is not foolishness,
But faith.
